Roles and permissions: who can do what

For owners and managers1 min readUpdated

Each person has one role: their job (like Security Guard) and the access that comes with it. New people join as Employee. Only the owner or an admin changes roles, and nobody changes their own.

Step 1: Your roles

Open Menu → Roles.

  1. Each role shows its access level: Admin (everything), Manager (people, sites, shifts, timesheets, requests), HR / Payroll (people, pay, payroll, hiring, time off), Supervisor / Team lead (runs shifts: signs people in and out, breaks) or Employee (their own shifts and requests).
  2. Tap + to add a role of your own: a name, and the access level it starts from.

Step 2: What a role can do

Tap a role, then Advanced.

  1. Every permission, by area: scheduling, attendance, requests, pay, hiring, inbox and settings. A role is exactly its switches.

Step 3: Change someone’s role

Open Menu → Employees and tap the person.

  1. Tap Role and access and pick their new role. Their title becomes the role’s name, and they are told.

To give one person something extra without changing their role, open Role and access → Advanced on their profile. Workers see what they were given in their company Menu → My permissions.

You’re done when…

  • Your supervisors have the Supervisor / Team lead role, and your managers Manager.
  • Everyone else is an Employee.
