Live location: see who is on the way to a shift

For owners and managers2 min readUpdated

Turn it on under Menu → Rules → Live location before shifts (it is off until you do); your crew is told when you switch it on.

From 30 minutes before a shift until each person signs in, the people running the shift see a tag under each name on the shift: how far away they are by road and how many minutes (for example "7.1 km · 13 min"), "not left yet", "At the site", or "Not sharing".

Someone who may arrive after the start shows in orange ("May be late, about 8 min after start"); nobody is sent a notification for it. Tap the person, then Live map: the job site and a green pin that moves every 30 seconds or so.

Each worker is asked 30 minutes before the shift (a notification, and a card on their home screen): the first time they agree to what it means, then Share or Not now. They can stop at any time, and you then see "Stopped sharing". It keeps working with their phone locked; their phone shows that it is sharing the whole time.

The pin stays hidden until they are about 1 km from where they started, so it never shows their home; until then only the distance shows. It stops when they sign in, 30 minutes after the start, or if the shift is cancelled or they are taken off it, and their location is wiped: no trail is kept.

Who sees it: the owner and admins, people who can assign or sign in that shift (for the people they look after), and the shift's crew lead. Coworkers never do, and nobody sees it outside that window. It needs the newest phone app; the web shows it to managers but workers share from the phone.
