How overtime is worked out
You set your own overtime rules; the app does not pick them for your province or state. Each rule is one line, like “After 8 hours in a day, pay 1.5×”, and the app works out every hour from them.
Step 1: Open your overtime rules
Open Menu → Payroll. It opens locked, so nothing changes by accident: tap Edit to make changes.
- Under Overtime rules, each line is one rule: after so many hours in a day, a week or two weeks, or on the 7th day in a row worked, pay a multiple of the normal rate.
1.5 is time and a half, 2 is double time, and 1 only counts the hours as overtime without paying more. With no rules, every hour is paid at the normal rate.

Step 2: Add or change a rule
- Set the hours and the rate on a line, or tap + Add a rule. ✕ takes a rule off.
- Try it works out an example day with your rules, so you can check the pay before you save.
- Tap Save changes. It lists exactly what changed before it saves.
A change applies from the start of the work week it is saved in. Earlier weeks keep their rules, so pay already worked out never moves.

Good to know
- When two rules cover the same hour, the higher rate wins, and no hour is paid twice. Overtime is always the last hours worked.
- Only time actually worked counts, with unpaid breaks taken off. A daily-minimum top-up, missed-break pay and cancellation pay are never overtime. Salaried people have no overtime.
- Each overtime hour adds (rate − 1) × that shift’s own hourly rate, including any pay bump on the shift.
- Overtime shows on the worker’s Pay screen, in Insights → Payroll, on the payroll summary and in the pay period download.
- Menu → Rules → Require approval to work overtime flags a booking that would go past a rule that pays more than 1×.
